ABOUT

Colleen Shoop

Welcome to my practice. My name is Colleen Shoop and I am a board certified psychotherapist in Sonoma County. I offer in-person and online therapy for residents of California.

TRAINING + EXPERIENCE

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW#100296) and a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame (1995) and a Master of Social Work degree from the University at Albany, State University of New York (2001).

I have an extensive background in community and school-based mental health and over the course of my career have served adults, adolescents, children and families with diverse backgrounds and life experiences in a variety of settings, including community mental health clinics, school districts, child welfare agencies, homeless family shelters, and the juvenile justice system.

With this experience, I have had the privilege of partnering with individuals and their families to help them navigate depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, family conflict, substance dependence, and other strains on mental health. I believe very strongly in each person’s capacity for growth and change and strive to find ways to help people live with greater meaning, satisfaction, and choice.

MY APPROACH

Caring for your emotional well-being is deeply individual. I collaborate with you to identify goals that are meaningful to you, then work from an integrated model, blending evidence-based practices, specifically Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with Mindfulness-Based approaches (DBT and ACT), and other therapeutic modalities depending on your specific needs and personality.

I bring a natural curiosity and empathy to my work. You will find my style to be warm, authentic, active, and anchored in the realities of everyday life. Because let’s face it, life is messy and complicated and hard for all of us at times. Together we can explore why patterns of thinking, feeling, and interacting have become painful or limiting and we can identify what is possible in your life and steps to get you there.
